Carlos Update, per request

Someone asked about Carlos so here's an update.

He is now ~6 mon old. He has grown tremendously. He continues to use his litter box like a pro, and we have not had any problems with him scratching or chewing on things he's not supposed to (knock on wood). However, he just recently has started to play bite us :( Hopefully, this is just a phase. We are trying to follow the recommend steps to stop this (stop petting him, putting him on the floor while giving him a stern "NO!").
One thing we have learned about Carlos, when he is in a feisty mood his pupils get very large so it is our warning to keep our distance (it is a guaranteed bite if you try to pet him). Once his pupils return to a normal size that is our cue that he is ready to be friendly again.
He gets very jealous when I am on my laptop and likes to come sit across my extended arms. It makes typing more difficult, but I manage.

This is what the past few Sundays have looked like at our place.
Burying his head from the light
This is as close a picture as I have to show how big he has gotten. He's not overweight, but certainly a healthy boy. He takes up a good share of lap these days.

Description Update

I had to change the description under our blog title. The previous description stated we lived in St. Louis, both of us were in school, Brian worked at USBank, and that we had no pets....all of which have changed....thank goodness! We are thankfully now back in KS, Overland Park to be specific, we are both out of school, Brian is now happily employed by Ferrellgas, and we are now the proud owners of a pet, a kitten named Carlos. All changes for the better!

We've Adopted

A kitten

His name is Carlos

Carlos is VERY friendly

We have had him just over one week now and he has already gotten so much bigger. The previous 3 pictures were from last weekend, the following is from today.

The angle of that picture might be slightly deceiving as to his size, but he has certainly thickened up over the last 9 days. He loves to take naps either on or very near one of us, like I said he is VERY friendly. His choice of sleeping positions (such as the one above) never ceases to surprise me. His favorite toys are pens, a pillow, and shoestrings. Carlos uses the litter box like a champ and has yet to destroy anything. A few hours out of the day he is a total spaz and runs around the house 100 miles per hour, the rest of the day he is very sweet and just wants to hang/nap with us.

Blog Addiction

As we all know I have some extra time on my hands right now. Hopefully, this will be changing sooner rather than later, but for now I am making the most of my downtime (and trying to do so without breaking the bank....the one I have yet to make any positive contributions to).

I started this blog, which I sadly rarely make posts to, several years ago, but somehow never got into the blog following craze. (Which in retrospect was probably a good thing because I had enough distractions that kept me from studying during school.) I just keep hopping from blog to blog and my google reader is quickly filling with my new found obsessions. It started with party planning type blogs, which moved to DIY, to home decor, now to fashion...ahhh. I could look at home decorating and fashion photos all day...and on a lazy Sunday like today, sitting in Makenzie's living room, that is exactly what I have done!

I admittedly need some active, get-fit hobbies, but as long as we are in excessive heat warnings I think I will just stay comfortably in the recliner and A/C blog-hopping.

WCWS

The Championship Trophy

For Mom's 50th birthday in February we got her tickets to the Women's College Softball World Series in Oklahoma City. For years now we have all been watching on it on TV and thought Mom would really like to go. Makenzie, Mom and I drove to Oklahoma City Thursday morning and caught games on Thursday evening, Friday, Saturday and Sunday before driving home Sunday evening. We did not stick around for the championship series between Arizona & UCLA on Monday and Tuesday. UCLA won the first two games one on Monday and the next on Tuesday to be named champions.

It was a fun (and quite hot) weekend. If we ever go again we will avoid seats on the third baseline for safety purposes as we were in the danger zone for foul balls. Makenzie took home a souvenir bruise to prove it!

Aubrey at The Magic House

The morning of graduation, Hayden, Matt and I took Aubrey to The Magic House in St. Louis. I had never been, but some parents in my class said it was a great place for kids of any age. And they didn't lie! I was very impressed with all the different activities they had. Aubrey had a great time. I had so much fun just watching her play and participate in the different activities.

The water feature. They did have water proof aprons available to put on the kiddos.

Her name in the sand box.

Making bubbles by playing the keyboard.

Some video of Aubrey pushing on the giant pin display. I love about halfway through the video she decides to figure out why the pins she pushes in keeping popping out. She went crazy on that thing for close to five minutes and finally we had to pull her away so some other kids could play. We (mommy) had to do that at a few different activities.

Optometry School Graduate

On May 15th 2010, I went from Whitney Coleman to Whitney Coleman, OD!! It was a very exciting day and I am so thankful to all of my family members who traveled to St. Louis to share my big day with me!
